Overview

To celebrate New Zealand Sign Language Week 2021 (10–16 May), Wellington's Garage Project has released a new beer in partnership with Deaf Aotearoa.

This year the 'Talk to the Hand' release is a 'cold IPA', a newer style of beer which sits somewhere between a hoppy lager and clean, dry IPA. Garage Project's 7.2 percent version was brewed with four different kinds of hops to really make the fruit flavours sing. It was once again inspired by the brewery's own Ryan Cassidy who uses sign language while working on the packaging team. The labels for the release were also hand-drawn by Cassidy with letters from the NZSL alphabet.

In line with New Zealand Sign Language Week, Garage Project is marking the release with a series of parties across the country. In Wellington, beer lovers can try the brew and learn new sign language skills at Aro Valley's Garage Project Taproom. On Sunday, May 16 representatives from Deaf Aotearoa will be on-site running sign language crash courses from midday so you can order your beer in sign.
