Overview
If you're feeling the need for a holiday and you're keen to leave NZ for a few days, why not take a quick trip to Canberra?
Canberra has a packed timetable of events over the coming months. One to look forward to is the annual Canberra Balloon Spectacular — where a group of spectacular hot-air balloons will take off together into the sky and provide a backdrop to beautiful scenery and Australia's national attractions.
The festival runs over nine days on the lawns of the Old Parliament House. At 6.15am, pilots begin laying out and inflating their balloons on the lawn of the Old Parliament House, before they take off into the sky for a couple of hours. The classic hot air balloons are there, but the festival mixes it up each year with novelty-shaped balloons. In previous years there have been windmills, a pair of dancing bees and balloon shaped like Vincent Van Gogh's head flown into the sky.
Get up early and spend a relaxing morning watching these beautiful balloons take off into the sky. Balloons inflate from 6.15am, launch from 6.30am-7am, and hot breakfasts are available to purchase on the lawn until 10am.
The show is (of course) completely dependant on Canberra's weather, so it's worth heading to the Balloon Spectacular's official website to check for daily weather updates.
Book a flight to Canberra with Singapore Airlines — the airline flies four times a week from Wellington to Canberra from only $370 return.
