What do you get when you combine experimental art, live performances and a stack of shipping containers? Follow the pink line along Wellington's waterfront and you'll soon find out.

This bright marker leads the way to The Performance Arcade, Wellington's coolest little arts fest. Now in its ninth year, this creative festival returns to the waterfront this summer, serving up a fresh batch of immersive art and experiences.

Held across two weekends, the festival features an eclectic programme of live art, performance, installation and audio visual art works. Local and international talent come together to create and curate art for everyone. And the best part? It's all free.

Step inside the containers and discover dynamic performance stages, galleries and studios, where art comes to life right in front of you. With a unique and accessible format, The Performance Arcade invites you to mix with artists and performers and get the chance to become part of the art. Have your shadow portrait drawn, watch live tattooing or challenge yourself to scale a container. From the weird to the wonderful, you never know what you'll find waiting inside.

Outside on the lawn, musicians will entertain the crowds in the afternoons and evenings, while a pop-up bar and Food for the People food truck will keep everyone fed and watered.

If you're hungry for more, check out Taste Arcade, a tantalising walking tour of culinary creations and performance. Eat your art out with interactive food experiences, special cocktails, menus and more.
