Overview

We'd feel bad if we didn't let you know—The Rubens are on their way to Wellington to play a show at Meow, the tickets for which are an absolute steal at only $15 a pop.

You're going to want to head along.

The Rubens, a five-piece alt-rock band from New South Wales last came to New Zealand in 2012 to support The Black Keys, for the release of their 2012 self-titled album (which later reached platinum status). They later performed support for Imagine Dragons and The Naked and Famous, as well as playing Splendour in the Grass. Since then, they've released their second full-length album in August 2015, Hoops, the lead title track of which  ascended some pretty lofty heights in the ARIA charts for the group of three brothers and a couple of their friends that make up the band.

Their sound is pretty classic, Australian rock with some great guitar lines and good beats. It's a little bit bluesy, a bit alternative. They're all skilled musicians and the lead's voice is perfect for a Saturday night gig where you just feel like having a drink and a good, loud dance to their belting anthems. This is the first time they'll be playing in a bar setting in NZ—all the more reason to head along and give them a good welcome.
