Overview
Tucked away in the vineyards of Martinborough you will find The Runholder, a venue that has everything a food and drink lover could want, all in one place. The unique venue is the new home to three powerhouses of the alcohol industry — Te Kairanga winery, Martinborough Vineyard and Lighthouse Gin. And on Saturday, September 30, The Runholder will be adding another string to its bow, by becoming a concert venue.
In conjunction with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO), The Runholder is holding a special event to mark the start of spring, aptly titled A Spring Rhapsody. The three-course meal has been curated by The Runholder's Head Chef Tim Smith.
Smith has worked in kitchens in some of Aotearoa's best culinary spots, such as Waiheke Island's Mudbrick Winery and luxury lodge Wharekauhau Country Estate. His menu will champion everything the Wairarapa has to offer, from the region's fresh seafood, homemade breads and homegrown olive oils.
The NZSO ensemble of brass and percussion will soundtrack the three-course feast, made up of David Johnson and Cheryl Hollinger on the trumpet, David Bremner on the trombone, Shannon Pittaway on the brass trombone, Lenny Sakaofsky on percussion and Alex Hambleton on the horn. The talented group will perform a range of compositions, from classic to modern-day pieces throughout the evening.
