Overview

For its last Tuatara Open Late of the year, the City Gallery is screening of Ari Seth Cohen's documentary Advanced Style.

Ari Seth Cohen is a blogger who roams the streets of New York looking for stylish and creative older folks. He started his blog Advanced Style after being fascinated by retirees' fashion sense. “My eyes have always been drawn to older people,” said Cohen. “And from a style point of view, I find them more interesting because they are of an age where they don’t have to impress anyone and can wear what they want.”

In 2014, his fascination with elderly fashion became fully incarnated in the documentary which goes by the same name. Advanced Style sparked international media coverage from the likes of TIME, The Daily Mail, Indiewire and The Guardian, as well as inspiring local designer Karen Walker to let Cohen shoot - and let the ladies from the documentary star in - her Summer 2013 Eyewear campaign.

Doors open at 5pm, with an exhibition tour at 5:30pm, a Ralph Hotere documentary screening at 6pm, a best dressed competition at 7pm and the Advanced Style documentary screening at 7:30pm.

Bookings essential via [email protected] (max of four seats per booking)
