Overview

On the first Thursday of every month, the City Gallery is Tuatara Open Late. The event profiles exhibitions showing in the gallery, pairing them with corresponding events with friends of the gallery, experts in their fields, arts commentators, musicians and performance artists. There's no telling what's coming up from the gallery team.

This month, Open Late is going full occult in honour of its newly-opened exhibition, Occulture. Auckland-based Mary MacGregor-Reid will be speaking about embodying character in art and the occult. An artist herself, she will consider the characters of her great-grandfather George Watson MacGregor-Reid and Aleister Crowley, looking at how they embodied artistic spirits of their time. Furthering one's work using the embodiment of characters and archetypes is a commonly-employed skill of magicians and artists alike.

As always, there will be supper treats from La Boca Loca, beers from Tuatara, wines from Seresin and music from DJ B.Lo.
