Overview

Vocal powerhouse and former Opensouls frontwoman, Tyra Hammond, released her debut solo EP in March. The taster was introduced with a cover of retro-guitar-band Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s bittersweet love song 'So Good at Being in Trouble’. Her soulful rendition proved almost equally as popular, holding a solid stance in student radio charts for weeks.

It's not the first time Hammond has added her flair to the work of others. Her long list of collaborators include: Scribe and the hit 'Say it Again' - which shot her into the limelight in 2007, as well as Ladi 6, Funkommunity, She's So Rad, and Young, Gifted and Broke associates The Side Steps Quintet and @peace.

For her solo EP, she was joined by produced and her former Opensouls bandmate Jeremy Toy. It captures Hammond's vocal prowess, with underlying raw and live instrumentation. In a one-off performance at Wellington’s Matterhorn, Tyra will be joined by Jeremy Toy and Chip Matthews to play songs off the EP and more.
