Overview

Uri Caine is a force of jazz piano: the brilliant pianist and composer is pairing with the New Zealand String Quartet to present an exciting collision of classical pieces and Caine's visionary improvisations. Helene Pohl, first violinist of the New Zealand String Quartet describes the process as "climbing inside the real-time creative process of a contemporary composer who is inspired by some of the greatest minds of the musical past."

This sense of freedom is not often associated with classical pieces, but put it in the hands of Caine and the Quartet and it is sure to be a thing of wonder. Their pieces will range from the Goldberg Variations to the Allegretto con variazioni of Beethoven’s Harp Quartet Opus 74, as well as some of Caine’s original piano and string quartet pieces.
