Something's definitely in the air at Wellington Zoo this Valentine's, and it's not just the squawks of the resident macaw.

This year, skip the overbooked restaurants and treat your loved one to something a little different — Valentine's Night at the Zoo. Wellington's haven for animal lovers will be open until 8.30pm this Valentine's Day for those 18 and above, providing a unique environment for you and your date to unwind.

In between mingling with your favourite animals, you can grab a tipple from an outdoor bar and jam along to Equinox 3, a jazz trio band who will be performing. You can even order a sumptuous platter in advance to avoid any hangry situations.

Keen to add a bit of education to your evening? There will be special animal talks throughout the night, focusing, of course, on the love lives of some of the zoo's residents. To add that extra gloss to your visit, you can also book a close encounter with one of the animals (these are filling up fast).

Valentine's Night at the Zoo runs from 5pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, 14 February. Treat the animal lover in your life to something a bit special this year.
