Overview
If you're feeling the need for a holiday and you're keen to leave NZ for a few days, why not take a quick trip to Canberra?
The city has a huge program of events happening over the next few months. One of our favourites is Versailles: Treasure from the Palace — an exhibition housed at the stunning National Gallery of Australia.
In this epic exhibition that contains some of the world's greatest treasures, royal paintings, intricate tapestries and luxurious gilded furniture has travelled from France to feature in an exhibition that celebrates a fascinating and often tumultuous period in French history. Smaller objects like Marie-Antoinette's hand-crafted harp are there, as well as larger artworks including six-metre tapestries produced for Louis XIV. The whole exhibition embodies the opulence, luxury and beauty of a period central to French history.
Aside from the art and objects, there will be music performances, public events and the foyer will smell like a Louis XIV-inspired fragrance (master perfumer Francis Kurkdijan created a scent specifically for the exhibition). You can also access the exhibition after-hours, as part of Canberra's Enlighten Festival.
The exhibition runs until April 17, head here to grab your tickets ahead of time.
