Food as you've never seen it before. The steaks have been raised.

Overview

As well as being the hunting ground of the country’s higher powers, Wellington is home to an outstanding array of inventive and reputable eateries.

The knives and forks are set to come out one again as the country’s largest culinary festival bites down on the capital for the seventh time. While it may sound like a dedication to the pastry covered steak dish, Wellington on a Plate celebrates everything about food, catering to all tastebuds, fetishes and wallet sizes.

Over 130 mouthwatering festival events will take place over 17 days in August, including: a candlelit medieval banquet, sandwiches delivered by parachute, a masterclass in fish, a five-course meal made entirely of bugs, a bread baking class, a seaside foraging experience, a tableside concert with the NZSO, a battle for the city’s best burger, a cocktail contest, and the country’s largest gathering of craft beer lovers, Beervana.

And, that’s barely even scratching the surface. See the festival website for the full programme.
