This year's festival is dedicated entirely to burgers and beers — with a two-day beer fest hitting Sky Stadium, and one burger featuring a half-dozen battered oysters.

Overview

Burger mania is about to sweep through the capital as Visa Wellington On a Plate and its beloved Burger Wellington officially return in August.

2023 marks the first time that the festival is dedicating its full program to burgers and beers, with a heap of Wellington favourites creating inventive and sometimes unholy burgers as part of the festivities.

On the beer side of things, two-day beverage festival Beervana will be celebrating all things hoppy between Friday, August 18–Saturday, August 19 at Sky Stadium.

Across four sessions, beer lovers will have the chance to sample brews from the country's top producers, while snacking from a range food stalls to line the stomach.

The burger fare being offered up this year is far from your classic meat and cheese. Caucus Restaurant has created a $59 burger complete with an eye fillet 'bun', the Leuven Belgian Beer Cafe has turned the humble waffle into a pork and beef savoury dish, while The Library is serving up the Big MacLary — which sees a 'toffee pop' brûléed chocolate patty paired with blueberry ketchup, lemon creme fraiche mayo and potato chips.
