Overview
In the city of Wellington where street art, music and photography is rife, painting might seem a thing of the past. It isn't, and we have proof. Three young painters have come together to prove that while artistic mediums are growing in all directions, painting is still relevant, and it's here for you. Chora Carleton, Lauren Collison and William Bennett are offering an experience for art lovers of all degrees. In the upstairs space of one of Wellington's angelic stores, Caughley, the exhibition is making painting cool again.
Each artist paints differently, though all of the works come together in abstraction, colour, memory and experience. This event is taking the famous quote, "from today, painting is dead" and throwing it out the beautiful stained glass window. Through oil and watercolour the paintings cover a range of ideas from NZ gothic to nostalgia. From September 30 - October 6 you have the chance to support local emerging artists, and it's a happy coincidence that the exhibition goes up the day of Caughley's first birthday.
The exhibition will be available during Caughley's opening hours.
