Overview

Looking for something to whet your palate beyond supermarket cleanskins? Wellington-based retailer Cult Wine is opening a satellite store in the capital to spread the word of natural and lo-fi vino.

Created by Jules van Costello and Asher Boote, Cult Wine celebrates innovation, diversity and authenticity in wine by supporting artisan winegrowers. That typically means wines created in small volumes, produced without chemicals and with minimal intervention. And so you know what you're in for, the company's wines are categorised with charming descriptors like 'Smashable' for easy-drinking drops; 'MindFuck Alert' for varieties that really break the boundaries of what wine should be; and 'Future Classic' for fine specimens that may end up being legendary.

It's been about two years since Cult Wines had a physical location in Wellington. The new Cult Corner store inside Tory Street's Mean Doses will offer more than 50 natural and lo-fi wines from New Zealand and around the world. To keep things accessible the selection is priced between $25 and $45. Cult Corner keeps customers up to date with new releases as they become available via its Instagram account.

The opening follows the success of Cult Wine's first satellite store in Auckland.

Cult Corner will open its doors inside Mean Doses on Friday, 31 July at 130 Tory Street. It will be open from Wednesday to Friday, 3–7pm and Saturday and Sunday, 12–5pm.
