After 15 years in the tiling industry, Yoong Ng hung up his tools to open Pho-Mo. The bright pink Dixon Street opening specialises in Vietnamese-inspired street food, although you can also expect further Southeast Asian flavours and recipes to make the odd appearance.

Yoong's family are the owners of much-loved Ghuznee Street establishment KK Malaysian. At Pho-Mo Yoong brings some of that energy to the likes of beef rendang curry puffs, which he developed with his grandma. Elsewhere, Pho-Mo — which is pronounced like it reads, rather than 'fuh-mo'— serves up a variation of Vietnam's national noodle soup: phở. Here, the dish features the combination of slow-cooked broth, rice noodles with beef sirlion or beef brisket.

Vietnamese street hawker favourite bánh mì also makes the list. Pho-Mo's toasted baguettes can be filled with buttermilk fried chicken, lemongrass grilled chicken, crispy pork belly or sliced beef, with accompaniments like pickled carrot, daikon, coriander and aioli.

For a quick and nutritious takeaway lunch there are rice paper rolls packed with the above proteins or tofu, as well as vermicelli noodles and fresh vegetables. The choice of dipping sauces range from spicy hoisin to nuoc cham, sweet chilli and plum. To make it a meal there are sides like fried chicken tenders, fried spring rolls, and a range of curry puffs.

Pho-Mo is open for both dine-in and takeaway at 62 Dixon Street, Te Aro. It's open from 11.30am–5pm, Monday to Saturday.
