Overview

I'll just come out and say it: Milk Crate is the perfect neighbourhood café. The Ghuznee Street spot has been a beloved fixture for years, with Morgan and Brigid holding the fort with great coffee and some of the best cabinet food (or indeed, food) you're likely to find in the area if you're looking for breakfast, a need-to-get-out-of-the-office snack or lunch.

With your caffeine fix ably provided by Berhampore-based Rich Coffee (the cold brew in summer is really great), and Earnest on the daily whole pressed fresh juices, your hydration levels are sorted.

Let's talk about the food. Master baker Brigid has the art of café food down. With a huge range of sandwiches, butties, a cracking daily summer salad (and equally excellent soups in winter), you need to get in quick for lunch. They use fresh sourdoughs from Shelley Bay Baker, and pickles by Esther's. Otherwise there are always beautiful cakes in the cabinet — think homemade mallowpuffs, peanut butter and jelly Oreos, lemon berry cakes and little pistachio ginger slices or muesli bars. Maybe the best thing about Milk Crate's offering is the way Brigid masterfully converts them into gluten-free glory for anyone with a funny tummy.

Head in there, grab a coffee and cake and sit amongst the neighbourhood. You'll feel like an instant local.
