Central Otago Arts Trail
Drive around Central’s backroads to visit the small towns where a number of amazing artisans live and produce painting, sculpture, patchwork, carving and jewellery.
Overview
From painting and sculpture to patchwork, carving and jewellery making — you'll find it all on the Central Otago Arts Trail. With more than 100 artists and spaces scattered throughout Cromwell, Bannockburn, Roxburgh, Alexandra, Oamaru and Ranfurly — there's sure to be a piece of art or hand-made trinket that speaks to you. The trail is a great weekend activity, you can while away the day looking at pretty things and maybe pick up a souvenir for your friends at home.
If you're feeling particularly sprightly, grab a bike and cycle along the Otago Rail Trail. Fitness and culture, what more do you need? Food. So, once you've finished all that perusing and pedalling, head to Riverside Kitchen — just 15 minutes north of Oamaru in North Otago — for some authentic farm-to-table fare.
