Overview

Discovering a new region on horseback gives you a whole new perspective. You immediately feel like a king or queen, surveying your land. Especially somewhere like Fiordland with its Lord of the Rings scenery. While you can't ride through the national park, you will still be able to enjoy panoramic views of Lake Te Anau, the surrounding mountain ranges and native bushland, as well as the Te Anau township.

The owner-operator guides at Westray Horse Treks will lead you over the sprawling hills, on horses that they themselves have bred and trained. The treks usually take around two hours — that sounds long but remember you're not doing the walking — and cater to all kinds of riders. The treks cost $95, that covers your safety equipment and training which ensures you are comfortable and safe while riding.
