Walk Through Rotorua's Waimangu Volcanic Valley
This new kid on the block has more than enough geothermal activity to go round.
Overview
With a claim to fame as the world's youngest geothermal site, Waimangu's striking hydrothermal system came into being as recently as 1886 when Mount Tarawera erupted.
Today, you're invited to take a self-guided stroll through this volcanic valley, where natural wonders await around every corner.
Hikes range from 1.5–4.5 kilometres, with most featuring exceptional views of the Inferno Crater Lake. Plus, there are boundless wildlife encounters and hot water springs to relish.
