Overview
First came Naumi Studio Wellington, the eclectically designed hotel showcasing works of local artists and designers. And now, New Zealand's capital is getting another characteristically eye-catching Naumi hotel – the new Naumi Wellington on Cuba Street.
Like its sister hotel (which is just next door) each of the 62 rooms is said to be more spacious than your average hotel room, feeling altogether more like a studio apartment than a classic suite. They don't hold back on their loud design aesthetic either — overlapping bright colours with bold patterns and a mish-mash of textures. It's a feast for the eyes.
Aotearoa designers Material Creative have used strong natural colours throughout each of the rooms — think lilac, avocado green and rusty red coloured walls — tastefully clashing against the diagonal striped carpet, velvet drapes and matte black furniture.
Works from local designers and artists take centre stage too. Bedside lights by Sweden-based Ovature Studios feature in every room. Bedside tables, coffee tables, and mirrors have been dreamt up by young Kiwi design start-up, Made of Tomorrow. And artworks come from a range of New Zealand and international artists.
Naumi Wellington also shares its food and drink spaces with its sister hotel, which is in the heritage building next door. Lola Rouge serves up South-East Asian cuisine while The Parlour is made for afternoon tea experiences — both have an impressive cocktail menu too.
The bold eclectic design features are on full display in both of these spaces, but with even more grandeur. More is most certainly more at Naumi Wellington.
