Step into the shoes of a post-war spy with Sydney's new immersive problem-solving game. Opening late August on King Street in Newtown, The Cipher Room is the creation of David Vella and Marise Watson, a husband and wife team who have channeled their love of puzzles into their very own escape room.

Suitable for groups of two to six people, The Cipher Room will offer two unique scenarios. The first is espionage themed, and asks players to track down the location of the mysterious Agent M. The second, which will launch later in the year, is more of a detective story, with participants snooping for clues in a serial killer's cabin. In both scenarios, players will have an hour to make it out. Otherwise, it's game over.

Watson and Vella have spent plenty of time on the project, crafting all of the wooden, electronic and graphic puzzles themselves, sourcing props and material from local vintage and second hand shops, and making use of recycled material wherever possible.

Until then, give this Sydney escape room a try.
