Overview

Isaac Katzoff Manufactures at Nook Gallery is the pop-up gallery’s last show, and they're going out with a rainbow kind of bang.

Manufactures is a colourful investigation into mass production through the medium of glass. Mass production is the heartbeat of human productivity; constant repetition, the monotony of the assembly line, the rhythm of machines.

By creating a mould and reproducing a piece multiple times, Katzoff explores the distance between perfection and imperfection; how happy accidents or human error can create beautiful slightly off-centre pieces. His fragile objects can be seen as factory seconds or damaged goods, and yet are presented as artefacts or museum pieces, questioning concepts of value and accessibility.

As part of Auckland Art Week the artist will be giving an artist talk on Sat 19 October 2013, followed by a tour of his studio. (Meet at Nook Gallery at 1pm.)

Sadly this is Nook's last show in their petite Ponsonby premises, but not the last of Nook. Watch this space to see where Nook Gallery pops up next.
