More than just a walk in the park.

Overview

Reclaim Sunday as a day of relaxation and take a trip to Sculpture in the Gardens. A fine choice for the 'cultured' date, the Auckland Botanic Gardens has more to offer than just a walk in the park. For the summer months 23 sculptures grace the grounds in a curated 2km sculpture trail along with the ever-growing permanent collection.

Sculpture in the Gardens is a chance to encounter the latest in contemporary sculpture from local artists. Far from the days of marble and bronze, the exhibition features a mix of works from serious to silly, attractive to interactive. Along the trail you'll find larger-than-life Rabbit and Crabby, alien invaders, castles and myriad other intriguing creations.

A collection of smaller works is on display in the indoor exhibition, while the concept gallery offers insight into the minds of the artists and the ideas behind the work. Various activities are on offer - guided tours for the curious, plus writing and photography competitions for the inspired. Visit the Sculptures in the Garden on Sundays for a guided artist tour of the sculpture trail, while a band provides the soundtrack.
