Overview
Exhibiting some of the most interesting, cutting-edge and up-and-coming bands under the indie, electronica, hip hop, and alt-pop banner, The Others Way festival returns to Karangahape Road on September 2.
The festival takes a page out of international music mixers CMJ and SXSW, where attendees can map out their own trajectory across a multitude of venues. Stages for this year's event are promised to be "bigger and better than ever before", with The Studio, Galatos, Neck of the Woods, Whammy, Wine Cellar, Las Vegas Club and Samoa House making up the list.
Assembling on those stages will be a bona fide sonic feast from New Zealand, including rare appearances from legendary alt-pop band Voom and frenetic indie quartet Cut Off Your Hands. Dream-pop band Yumi Zouma will appear off the back of their debut album Yoncalla, while jangle-psych duo Ghost Wave and shoegazer Zen Mantra will also support their respective new releases.
Hip hop collective Young, Gifted & Broke will present a stage at Samoa House featuring Louie Knuxx, ENO X DIRTY, Spycc & INF and MeloDownz.
Further highlights include: indie-pop newcomer Merk, Mexican sci-fi cinematic jazz ensemble Carnivorous Plant Society, vintage guitar band David Kilgour & The Heavy Eights and Wellington multi-instrumentalist Grayson Gilmour.
Exceptions to the local roster include Melbourne's Twerps and slacker-pop band Scott & Charlene's Wedding. Not entirely restricted to music, the festival will also present Flying Nun Records founder Roger Shepherd in a free Q&A session about his new book, In Love With These Times.
