Overview
The Basement’s annual end-of-year production is back, this time with an irreverent take on the Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol.
The miserable Ebenezer Scrooge is in the business of Christmas. After skulking back to his Coromandel bach on Christmas Eve to count the profits from the sale of his barely edible Scrooge Co Christmas hampers, he discovers he has some uninvited guests. The ghosts of Christmas past, present and future as well as Patrick Swayze have arrived to scare up some good old-fashioned Christmas spirit.
Written by Nic Sampson and Barnaby Fredric and directed by Sophie Roberts A Basement Christmas Carol stars Gareth Williams as Scrooge along with a revolving cast which includes David Farrier, Rose Matafeo, Michael Hurst, Jacinda Ardern and many more. Join them as they ponder such important questions as has the Mad Butcher sizzled his last sausage? Can Kate Sheppard atone for the secrets of her story? Will John Campbell get to the bottom of this very current affair? And just how many diseases can Tiny Tim take?
A Basement Christmas Carol is a sing-a-long spectacular to tickle your funny bone and remind you what the festive season is really about; getting plastered and laughing at pop culture references. Go along on to the December 13 show and you'll also have the opportunity to partake in a POPDining Christmas dinner.
