Overview

Christmas on the beach has never sounded better thanks to event organiser and playwright, Roger Hall, who for the sixth year brings a free performance to Takapuna Beach Reserve this Christmas Day.

The annual event is fast becoming an Auckland Christmas tradition, this year treating the public to a scene from Bruce Mason’s The End of the Golden Weather, which was performed earlier this year at Maidment Theatre.

Set at Te Parenga beach in the 1930s, where two boys experience the excitement of Christmas day, The End of the Golden Weather explores the exhilaration and apprehension as they wait for the day, the church service, present-giving and Christmas dinner.

A perfect start to an authentic kiwi Christmas, enjoy this free offering featuring top New Zealand actor, Stephen Lovatt  who will perform the narrative piece solo, bringing to life a world of magic and transformation, where anything can happen and miracles seem possible.

If weather conditions are unfavourable, the scene will be performed in the nearby War Memorial Community Hall on The Strand, near the Takapuna Library.
