Overview

Celebrating 12 years of bringing French cinema to New Zealand, the Alliance Française French Film Festival has unveiled its full program for the 2018 festival. The curtain will raise on March 1 with six weeks of French dramas, comedies, biopics, period films, melodramas and documentaries in 14 cinemas across New Zealand.

There are 37 films on the 2018 program including several award-winning titles. Direct from Cannes comes Grand Prix and Queer Palm-winner BPM (Beats Per Minute) by Robin Campillo, Makala by Emmanuel Gras, and Camera d'Or-winner Montparnasse Bienvenüe by Léonor Serraille.

Sitting pretty on the highlights list is Ismael's Ghosts which sees three of France's most gifted actors face-off on the big screen; Ava, the first feature from La Fémis graduate and filmmaker Léa Mysius; coming-of-age effort Reinventing Marvin; and the opening night comedy C'est la vie! from The Intouchables duo Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache.

Elsewhere, a special selection of films set around La grande guerre will feature to mark the end of the centenary of the First World War, and the special events calendar will add to the viewing experience with wine and cheese tasting, a film for foodies, and a French painting class.

The Alliance Française French Film Festival will run in Auckland from March 1-21 at Rialto Newmarket and Berkeley Cinemas Takapuna. For full program details including screening times and ticket information, visit the AFFFF website.
