Overview

It's been three decades since Michael Allpress and his little coffee cart helped transform the coffee drinking and cafe culture in New Zealand. To celebrate the milestone, the coffee brand is lighting the candles and hosting a large-scale retrospective exhibition at its dedicated studio space in Freemans Bay.

Open to the public from 15 August to 30 September, the exhibition will tell the story of Allpress — from the Victoria Park Market coffee cart to a global coffee brand spanning Australia, Britain and Japan — through audio, video, photography, art and ephemera from the archives. The hero of the installation will be a recreation of the original 80s coffee cart.

Three speaker events will also take place at the studio throughout the duration of the exhibition featuring New Zealanders known for their disruptive, entrepreneurial and adventurous spirit.

To complete the anniversary lineup, Allpress is releasing merchandise and a celebratory coffee blend. All proceeds from merchandise will go to foundations supporting dyslexia and cleaning up the world's oceans.
