Overview

After two years of COVID cancellations, one of Auckland's most popular cultural festivals is returning to the CBD. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Auckland Diwali Festival and Aucklanders are encouraged to head along to enjoy the celebrations taking over Aotea Square and Queen Street on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9.

Translating to 'the festival of lights', this year's stacked Diwali program includes dance performances, live music acts, mouth-watering vegetarian food, vibrant arts and crafts and a fireworks finale. Each year the festival attracts from 800 — 1000 performers to the square, making for an absolutely stunning spectacle.

Highlights will include Grammy nominee and multi-platinum selling oboist and composer Russel Walder who recently played with the NZSO performing on the Queen Street stage; and the 50-strong dance group Auckland Maliyali Samajam, performing traditional folk music from India's southern Kerala region.

Family-friendly and free to attend, don't miss this stunning celebration of Aotearoa's Indian community this spring.
