Overview

The description for Auckland Fringe show Catacular simply reads, "It's a cat show. There's cats. (also some snazzy dancing)"

We're sold.

Created by Unitec Dance graduates Sarah-Louise Collins and Caitlin Davey, the show is a crazy cat lady's dream come true featuring 30 minutes of contemporary dance and performance art with a roll call of four-legged fur balls, in the flesh.

The use of real life cats was prompted after the pair saw a friend's cat book which was filled of images of people dancing with cats. And regardless of Caitlin's cat allergy, they say, "We thought that it would be great fun."

Given the unpredictable nature of cats, the pair say that most of the show will have aspects of improvisation so they can adapt movements to fit what the cats are doing. Audience interaction is also highly encouraged when the cats aren't cooperating, "They'll always be present in the room for the audience to play with and cuddle."

Cataular is set to take place at dedicated feline establishment BaristaCat Café on Sunday 26 February as part of the Auckland Fringe. The ticket price includes an additional 20 minutes of cat cuddles once the show has come to an end.

Dog people also welcome.
