Overview

Consider yourself a platter king or queen? Always asked to bring the nibbles to Friday drinks? Forget Tomorrowland or Sziget — your festival of choice has finally arrived and happy enough, it's right here in Auckland.

Following in the footsteps of cheese festivals, chocolate festivals and fried chicken festivals, some of New Zealand's best butchers are highlighting the country's ace cured meats scene with a festival of their own. On Saturday, November 19, the inaugural New Zealand Charcuterie Festival will be held outside Churly's Brewpub and Eatery.

Pull up a picnic blanket — more than a dozen artisan butchers and cured meat specialists will be exhibited on the day and attendees will get to learn about the process of meat curing through a series of interactive demos. They'll also get tips on assembling the perfect board and where cheese comes into the equation (heavily, if we have our way).

Your $45 ticket gets you 10 food tokens, which you can spend at different vendors to build the ultimate board. Assemble all those goodies on your commemorative charcuterie board, then kick back on the lawn outside Churly's. Yes, you can grab a few bevs while you're there to wash it down.

Running from 12pm-5pm on Saturday, November 19, this sounds to us like the ultimate way to spend an afternoon — and maybe kick off the evening.
