Overview
A dance floor powered by an upcycled washing machine — you wouldn't read about it.
Dust off your dancing shoes because the Dance-O-Mat is heading back to Aotea Square. Originally developed by Gap Filler in post-quake Christchurch to make use of vacant spaces in the city, the Dance-O-Mat is designed to bring people together via spontaneous dancing, whatever the skill level.
The interactive outdoor dance floor comes alive when a personal music device with a headphone jack is plugged in. It has been professionally sprung to provide a softer dancing surface and features four speakers, lights and all the bells and whistles. Dance-O-Mat will arrive in Aotea Square just in time for NZ Dance Week from April 14 to 29. And it's absolutely free to use.
