Overview

Death and the Maiden was written in 1990 by Ariel Dorfman, a Chilean/Argentinian novelist, playwright, and human rights activist. The play premiered in London's Royal Court Theater in 1991, going on to tour around the world - even making a stop on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in 1992. In 1994 the play was adapted into film by Roman Polanski staring Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley and Stuart Wilson.

Now, thanks to the Newmarket Stage Company in association with Amnesty International, Aucklanders have the opportunity to see this wonderful piece of writing come to life as it was intended, as live theatre. This play is high-strung three-hander layered with confronting issues of morality and justice, and seeing it brought to life should be a real treat. The play will be directed by John Callen and performed by Edwin Wright, Tatiana Hotere and George Henare.

The play will run for two weeks from the 28th of May to the 13th of July, so there will be plenty of opportunity to see it.
