Overview

A gentrified facelift could not alter the bohemian spirit of Karangahape Road's St Kevins Arcade, with music venues such as Whammy Bar ensuring that it remains a cultural hub in Auckland. For a few years now, this dive bar under the stairs has hosted some of the finest local and international alternative artists. Celebrating the diversity of artistic expression seems to be at the heart of the venues ethos and certainly at the heart of Double Whammy.

Taking place on Friday 11 May and Saturday 12 May across Whammy and Whammy Backroom, it will be a celebration of some of the best musicians in New Zealand right now. Curated by Worn Out, the 19-act lineup encompasses everything from drone to experimental hip hop. Standouts will include All Seeing Hand's bombastic throat singing, Slumbug's raucous sludge and Randa's quirky rap stylings. While artists Suren Unka, Catherine Ellis and Goon Friend will be providing a visual feast.

Whatever you're into, chances are you'll find an alternative counterpart in the full lineup listed below. Tickets are $20 for the whole weekend, available now at Under the Radar.
