Overview

For the sixth year running, brewmasters from across the country will be flexing their beer-making muscles as part of Fresh Hop. The event connects brewers with hops from the bine within 24 hours of plucking to create exclusive fresh-hopped brews — a process that typically results in more aroma and more flavoursome beer. It's not dissimilar to cooking with fresh herbs over the dried varieties that are readily available in the supermarket.

Last year 30 local brewers came together using the stickiest of hops to create 30 fresh concoctions, including a white IPA, golden ale and Belgian trippel.

This year it's all happening again on April 13 between The Lumsden Freehouse, The Brewers Co-operative, Beer Jerk, Vultures' Lane and Galbraith's Alehouse. The brewery lineup is still yet to be announced. To take out the hassle of transport, three vehicles will be on a continuous loop of the bars from 12pm to 6pm. Use of the bus is free for all fresh hoppers.
