Overview

Disguise and revelation, love and jealousy combine in the tragic tale of Giselle. A love story unfolds against the ghostly backdrop of a Rhineland forest haunted by the presence of the Wilis, vengeful spirits of abandoned brides.

The beautiful peasant girl Giselle falls for Albrecht who conceals his true identity in order to win her over. The discovery of her lover’s deception shatters Giselle’s innocence and causes her to die of a broken heart. Albrecht is thrown into the hands of the merciless Wilis, but Giselle cannot bear to watch him die and returns as a ghost to protect him.

Company director Ethan Stiefel will co-produce the show along with internationally acclaimed principal dancer of London’s Royal Ballet Johan Kobborg. Principal guest artist and star of American Ballet Theatre Gillian Murphy will dance the role of Giselle. The RNZB productions have all been outstanding this year. If you like ballet, you'd be mad to miss this, the most dramatic and beautiful of ballets.
