Overview

The Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis is coming to New Zealand with his grey druid-like locks, croaky indie folk and energetic acoustic and electric guitar playing in tow.

Pitchfork describes him as "one of the few guitar gods whose technical prowess never sounds like an end in itself, but simply a means of getting his point across. Which is not to say that he doesn’t occasionally showboat, but that he showboats with great purpose."

Although his solo sound has (naturally) developed away from that of his band, he still incorporates much of his singing style he's developed under Dinosaur Jr. Rolling Stone calls him the "forever vulnerable, heart-shredded, yearning boy, singing about his feelings in the same beat-down, reedy falsetto he's used over two-plus decades."

J Mascis has released two solo albums thus far - Several Shades of Why in 2011 as well as Tied To A Star in 2014. The frontman still tours with his band Dinosaur Jr and guested with a reformed Nirvana in Brooklyn, New York in April 2014.
