Overview

Japan Day is the biggest one-day Japanese cultural event in New Zealand. Held for the past 18 years, the event has established a loyal following — it attracted upwards of 30,000 guests last time around. This year the free event will take place at Eden Park on Sunday, March 3, hosting traditional Japanese cultural displays such as martial arts demonstrations, taiko drumming, origami and the art of bonsai, as well as contemporary trends like cosplay, J-Pop and anime.

With food being an important component of Japanese culture, the festival wouldn't be complete without a focus on cuisine. Attendees will be given the opportunity to witness cooking demonstrations, as well as the highly physical art of rice cake pounding and a tea ceremony. There will also be plenty of food stalls hawking delights from the Far East nation.

Indulge your senses and submerge yourself in culture this March.
