K Road Vintage Extravaganza

Overview

St Kevins is the place to be this weekend for lovers of K Road and all things vintage. The Vintage Extravaganza marks the release of a new K Road Vintage Shopping Guide and phone app, and celebrates the golden days of glamour and style in Auckland's premiere vintage shopping destination, Karangahape Road.

The K Road area boasts the largest collection of vintage and secondhand stores in New Zealand, with 19 independent retailers in a one kilometre radius. Ranging from clothing and textiles, to furniture and accessories, K Road is a vintage lover’s dream. and a one stop shop for anyone who has a taste for unique design and style from a bygone era.

The Vintage Extravaganza begins with an evening of swing dancing in St Kevin's Arcade followed by a  one-day-only event with free vintage makeovers for ladies and gents, free photo portraits with retro scooters, specials and discounts in participating vintage stores, prizes and a Well Dressed Protest.

Event organiser Rose Jackson says; “What started as a simple brochure update, has blossomed into a full on two day vintage extravaganza. There is such a thriving vintage community in Auckland and what better way to celebrate than with some shopping in an area overflowing with fantastic secondhand stores, enjoying a spot of tea and cake, treating yourself to a free makeover and gliding around the dance-floor in the beautiful surrounds of St Kevin’s Arcade.

I'm most looking forward to the Well Dressed Protest. Having seen one too many people wearing pyjamas and slippers in inappropriate situations, I felt it was time to take to the streets and make a stand against declining sartorial standards. I'd like to invite everyone to come attired in their best and enjoy a well-dressed saunter along K Rd, just like people used to in the good old days”.
