Overview

Have you ever wanted to learn more about sake? Well, read on. (And if not, you are clearly in the wrong place and I'm not really sure what you were expecting from an event title that literally says it's all about sake tasting. Go back to 'go' and do not collect $200.)

Sake, also known as Japanese rice wine, is a bit of a misnomer. The wine, which is produced by fermenting rice that has been polished to remove the bran, has a brewing process a lot more akin to that of beer. In wine, the alcohol is produced by fermenting sugars naturally present in the grape, while with sake and beer starch is is converted into sugars which then ferment into alcohol.

For more fun sake facts to impress your friends and family with, we recommend going to Kampai! Sake Tasting at Tanuki's Cave and drinking five different sakes (matched with five dishes) and hearing about the history, brewing process, etiquette and a few anecdotes of this traditional Japanese drop from Tanuki's head chef. Kampai! Sake Tasting is part of Restaurant Month 2018.

Tickets available from the restaurant.
