Overview

Two food and beverage legends have combined forces to serve up the best of what their respective countries have to offer, from a smoky traditional hāngi to premium Scottish whisky.

At Tales of Peat, Salt and Fire, Rewi Spraggon — also known as The Hāngi Master — will be using Laphroaig whisky to create a one-off dining experience, with guests sampling the whisky in every form, from drams to cocktails to marinades. The evening is on the pricier side at $235 a ticket, but should be worth it.

Spraggon will be using the Māori practice of hāngi to cook his selection of dishes, giving each meal a smoky, earthy element, perfect for pairing with a dark whisky.

Without giving too much away, guests can expect canapés made up of local seafood, Laphroaig smoked lamb rack, beef cheek and pork belly bao, just to name a few. And if you have any room left, diners will be able to indulge in a dessert of Laphroaig infused steamed pudding.

Spraggon has been a big fan of Laphroaig for more than 20 years, and said it was a "privilege" to use the Scottish whisky in his cooking. On the night, he'll be entertaining the audience with stories of his past and present, and reveal his journey to becoming The Hāngi Master.

Needless to say, bookings are essential.
