Overview

Many of life's most memorable experiences are accompanied by music. It goes hand in hand with significant life moments like weddings and birthdays and long distance road trips with friends. It's a shared experience. This is what LATE at the Museum: The Music Machine aims to explore.

Taking place on November 7 at the Auckland Museum Event Centre, The Music Machine will mark the opening of the Museum's first major exhibition dedicated to music: Volume: Making Music in Aotearoa. The exhibition will allow attendees to hear about the relationships between musicians and their fans, and critics, from some of New Zealand music's sharpest musical minds.

A panel of renowned musical figures will appear at LATE, including Charlotte Ryan, who hosts Air New Zealand's TV and radio show The Pitch, Anna Coddington, who has performed at Aotearoa's top music and arts festivals, and Lawrence Arabia, who has numerous accolades for his work including the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll and the inaugural Taite Music Prize.

With sweeping views out over the city, and catering from the chefs at Dawsons Catering, the evening promises to explore the broad spectrum of New Zealand's musical heritage including the passage of music from vinyl to MP3, the impact of key New Zealand songs like 'Poi e' and 'Loyal' and the shift from dance halls to DJs.
