Overview

Another iconic landmark along Auckland's Karangahape Rd is scheduled for development; a steadily growing pattern for the colourful strip.

While the end is nigh for the Las Vegas Strip Club, the fate of the building and the infamous ‘Vegas Girl’ sign adorning the exterior is still being kept under wraps. The new leaseholders are Paul Franich and Lucien Law, the pair responsible for sprucing up a good chunk of Britomart, namely Ebisu, Tyler Street Garage, and the Seafarers Building.

The weathered Las Vegas establishment has been around on K'Rd since 1962, making it the country’s longest standing strip club, as well as a well-known smoko stop for cops on the beat. While some will be happy to see backside the sin-filled club, there’s no denying that it has been a major component of Auckland’s red light culture. To send off the fair lady, a final week of events will held from September 24 - 26.

Being a regular haunt for live music, and nudie destination, the club will suitably deliver a night of rock 'n' roll and burlesque on September 24. Taking the linoleum coated runway will be Auckland alternative rock band New Gum Sarn, folk-country four-piece Dead Little Penny, DJ Matthew Crawley, rock n’ roll stoner band Dead Model, psychedelic-folk storyteller Bernie Griffen and The Thin Men, Aimee Luna & Kat Kelly. In true Las Vegas style there will also be performances from local burlesque dancers.
