Overview
Hailing from Quebec and pairing choreographed chaos with the "fractured rhythms, black humour and gleeful surrealism" of Tom Waits' music, L'orchestre d'hommes-orchestres are gloriously mad.
The four-man troupe are accompanied by the deadpan duo the New Cackle Sisters, in a show that emphasises vaudeville and cabaret elements with a chaotic slapstick sensibility. Waits' work takes on new form, from gravel-voiced and louche, to an eccentric offering with vim and vigour. Surrounded by detritus and found objects, their stage presence is infectious as they play with various objects- bellows, spaghetti, a tin bath, balloon powered-melodica.
This wacky, unimaginable interpretation is a hit you'll not want to miss.
