Sex and the City in 411BC.

Overview

Auckland Theatre Company presents a contemporary adaptation of Greek comic playwright Aristophanes' brilliantly satirical Lysistrata. Described by famed Kiwi director Michael Hurst as Sex and the City 411BC, expect an evening of provocative and risqué comedy which proves Aristophanes' classic text - the original expose of sexual relations in male-dominated ancient Greek society -  is just as relevant as ever.

Lysistrata is hell bent on ending the Peloponnesian War, a battle destroying the golden age of Athens. Rallying her fellow womenfolk together, she suggests they withhold 'intimacy' until the Athenian men agree to bring the war to a stop. But is this a strong enough vice to bring the men to their knees? Will the women themselves agree to forgo their own desires?

It's an all out war between the sexes from the creative team who brought Chicago to the stage, along with an all star cast including Amanda Billing, Jennifer Ward-Lealand, Sia Trockenheim and Hannah Tasker-Poland. Tickets available now, including the special Girl's Night Out session. Group concessions apply. Suitable for audiences aged 16+yrs.
