Overview

South Africa has dombolo, Japan has gyoza, Latin America has empanadas and China has everything from shu mai to xiao long bao — but have you ever heard of momos? One of the lesser-known dumpling varieties hails from the peaks of Nepal. The morsels are typically filled with meat and can be eaten as a full meal.

In Auckland you can find them down a quaint brick alley in Parnell. Everest Dine specialises in the Nepalese parcels of joy, serving them up in chicken, lamb and vegetable with an addictive tomato chutney to match.

Come 20 August from 6–9pm, hungry diners will get the chance to eat all the momos they can possibly handle as Everest Dine launches Momo Madness. As well as a bottomless supply of the flavoursome dumplings for $25, diners will have the opportunity to enter a competitive eating challenge to become the ultimate momo munching champion. The bar will be serving $5 house beers.
