MOTAT Christmas Lights 2022

You'll think you're at the North Pole when entering this fairy light-lit wonderland — rather than Auckland's favourite transport museum.

Overview

After two years of COVID cancellations and limitations, there is, in our opinion, no such thing as too much Christmas festive cheer. That's why we're embracing all the light displays and festivals this year — including a gorgeous show from everyone's favourite transport museum, MOTAT.

In line with the silly season, the Western Springs venue is sharing the magic of Christmas with twelve evenings of festive fun and entertainment.

From 7-10, 14-17 and 21-24 December, the grounds of the museum will be transformed into a fairy light-lit wonderland complete with festive movie screenings, live Christmas carollers, wishing trees and Santa's Grotto — and some delicious, edible treats of course.

The lights will be shining merry and bright — but for those who need a safe and quieter space, there will be a low sensory cottage available as well.

Beautifully lit trams will be running to the end of Great North Road and the man in red will be on hand for photo opportunities. All that plus food trucks — and a partridge in a pear tree.

Tickets are only available online with no door sales available, so head to the website and book your spot quick-smart.
