Overview

Time to get just a little bit excited for the explosive cocktail in an acoustic mould that the Fourtet will bring this Wednesday to 1885. As full of poetic jargon as that sentence may seem, it's a pretty spot-on account of what you can expect. Having played together since the late 1980s, Haines and Field have joined musical forces with Botting and Koetsier to form a fresh rhythm selection.

This band is of the acoustic mould, meaning that, apart from microphones, these guys are as old school as you can get. Upright bass, grand piano, drums and, of course, Haines at the helm on saxes and flutes, you can expect an evening of serious toe-tapping and the odd shimmy.

Haines has been deep in the shed for the last three months after a one month sabbatical in France where he finally grappled with some of the "bigger" musical ideas that had been eluding him for decades. That, coupled with a lovely 1963 Selmer Mk IV, has led Haines down the path of assembling a band where anything is possible. It is this ethos that sets them apart from other jazz combos.

Head out down to 1885 for a Wednesday wine and enjoy the hazy doo-wops from a seriously talented bunch. Nothing like a bit of midweek jazz.
