Overview

New Zealand's richest horse race, the $1,000,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million, is known for its fast-paced, high-stakes races, groundbreaking horse fashion and attracting those that frequent the nightlife pages of the Sunday paper.

The event is a wrap up of the annual National Yearling Sales in Karaka as hundreds of one-year-old horses are sold to new homes in the hopes of becoming the next big thing in thoroughbred racing. The top 14 qualified youngsters from the sales will be put to the test and hopefully prove their worth with six fast-paced races across the afternoon.

As the sun sets and the horses are sent to bed, a covers band will take the stage, the champagne will keep flowing in the Cuvee lounge and a fireworks display will light up the evening sky, in part to celebrate Auckland City’s 175th birthday.

Fashion man Ted Baker has choreographed a collection of clothes for the runway. For those who can’t get a seat, it will also be shown on nearby big screen TVs on-site.
